The aorta is anatomically and surgically divided into the following sections:
- Aorta ascendens – ascending aorta
- Arcus aortae – aortic arch
- Aorta descendens – descending aorta
- Aorta thoracica – thoracic aorta
- Aorta abdominalis – abdominal aorta, which is further subdivided into
a section above and below the
origin of the renal vessels
